Position duties include:
Inmate supervision including : maintaining control and discipline among inmate workers; conducting searches for contraband items; administering verbal or written disciplinary actions enforcing safety, sanitary, custody and security rules and regulations. Assigning installation maintenance or repair tasks to designated inmates performing at various levels of proficiency in the trade. Training and instructing inmates regarding methods and techniques, use of tools and equipment, and proper care of tools and equipment. Inspecting and approving/disapproving all work performed by inmates for adherence to quality standards. Estimating time, materials and supplies to conduct assigned maintenance or repair tasks. Ordering materials and supplies, keeping records and inventory of materials and tools. Personally preform certain installation, maintenance or repair takes on electrical infrastructure. Planning and implementing procedures. Operating hand and power tools and equipment needed; maintaining record of time. Escorting third party vendors and inspecting completed work assignment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Correctional Training Commission regulation.
Experience: Two years of electrical experience.

Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland prior to permanent appointment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 1. Selection standards for Correctional Officer certification are established by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209 of the Annotated Code of Maryland. These selection criteria are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12, Subtitle 10, Chapter 01 and include the following:

Provides care, custody and control of inmates at a correctional institution on an assigned shift. Directs inmate activities and maintains security in cell blocks, dining and work areas. Observes inmates from towers, in corridors or in visiting areas. Provides advice and guidance in assisting inmates in their adjustment to institutional rules and regulations.
Essential job functions
The ability to: Attend an entrance level training program certified by the Maryland Corrections Training Commission. Exercise care, custody and control over inmates. Administer emergency medical assistance to both inmates and staff. Perform physically demanding tasks e.g. running, physical control of inmates, lifting. Supervise inmates participating in work, leisure activities, formal programs, etc. Work overtime as required by operational necessities and emergencies. Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with inmates and stuff Analyze situations and problems and provide appropriate solutions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School diploma or high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional Training Commission regulation.

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. A driver license is recommended but not required. Employees in this classification may be required to operate buses for the transportation of inmates. Employees assigned such duties will be required to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License with passenger and air brakes endorsements valid in the State of Maryland. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees who have not already done so must meet the selection standards required and have successfully completed the training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission for a correctional officer during their probationary period, (Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209). Employees in this classification hired or reinstated on or after July 1, 2016 shall successfully complete the Entrance Level Firearms Training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission (Code of Maryland 12.10.04.01 and 12.10.04.05) and demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis. Employees are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, must provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
