Financial Aid Process For New Students At Blue Ridge CTC

Here are easy steps to make education more affordable for all qualified students who are planning to meet career goals with Blue Ridge CTC.

Completing The FAFSA

Students who have been accepted to Blue Ridge CTC, but have not yet received a Financial Aid Award Letter should ensure completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Additionally, students must add Blue Ridge CTC to the FAFSA application using the Blue Ridge CTC school code: 039573. It usually takes 3-5 business days for the application to reach the Financial Aid Office after submission.

Additional Documentation Requested

Students should check BRIDGE to ensure the Financial Aid Office has received all required information. This information can be found by logging into BRIDGE and following: Financial Aid > Eligibility > Student Requirements (select appropriate aid year) > Unsatisfied Requirements.

All outstanding requirements are listed at the top of the page as Unsatisfied Requirements and provide directions regarding requirements that need to be completed. Contact the Financial Aid Office with questions.

Receiving My Award Letter

Students can review awarded financial aid by logging into BRIDGE and following: Financial Aid > Award > Award by Aid Year (select appropriate aid year) > Accept Award Offer.

This provides a breakdown of all financial aid awarded per semester. All grants are automatically accepted; loans and/or work study must be accepted or declined. Students may accept the full amount offered or a partial amount.

Students taking out loans for the first time must complete both Entrance Counseling and the Master Promissory Note online.

Need Additional Aid?

For dependent students, Blue Ridge CTC participates with the Federal Parent PLUS Loan for students and parents. This is a credit-based loan in a parent’s name. Parents can apply online.
Independent students may be eligible for additional unsubsidized loans. Blue Ridge CTC offers affordable tuition; therefore, initial financial aid packages do not include the full amount of eligibility. Students who require additional funding can submit the Additional Unsubsidized Loan Request Form to have financial aid packaged to the full budget. NOTE: Full budget award package depletes summer financial aid availability.

Obtaining Books

Blue Ridge CTC partners with the Follett Bookstore. Students can use financial aid to purchase books before classes begin. Once Financial Aid has been added to a student account, students can log in to the Follett Bookstore website and place an order to purchase books. This occurs approximately a month prior to the start of each semester. At checkout, select financial aid as the payment method. The account number used is the Blue Ridge CTC student ID number, which begins with a capital “C”.

NOTE: Students must have financial aid awarded and processed in order to order textbooks using financial aid. Students who do not have financial aid on a student account, or students who do not have enough financial aid to cover the purchase receive an error message that no account number was found.

Receiving Refund Checks

Students who have a balance of financial aid greater than the amount owed to Blue Ridge CTC each semester are issued a refund. The first refund is not issued until approximately one month into the semester. Student attendance records are checked prior to refund distribution.

All grants and the first half of the loans are received at that time. After the student bill is paid, the Cashier’s Office issues a refund in the amount of the remaining balance. The second refund is issued approximately one month later and includes the second half of the student loans.

Our school delivers your refund with BankMobile Disbursements, a technology solution, powered by BMTX, Inc. Visit their website for more information.
