Blue Ridge Community and Technical College will host a no-cost seminar, “Understanding the Appalachian Workforce,” on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Main Campus, 13650 Apple Harvest Drive, Room 1101.
The seminar will explore how cultural understanding can help employers and professionals work more effectively within Appalachian communities. Participants will gain practical insights into the values, motivations, and lived experiences that shape the Appalachian workforce.
The featured speaker will be Rachael Meads, Director of Student Activities and Leadership at Shepherd University and an instructor in Shepherd’s Appalachian Studies program. Rachael is also the founder of the Appalachian Heritage Festival at Shepherd, which is now celebrating its 30th anniversary. Her work in developing and disseminating knowledge about Appalachia and its people has been recognized by the Appalachian Studies Association.
The event is free and open to employers, professionals, and community members. Registration is encouraged at www.blueridgectc.edu/appalachian.
