Blue Ridge Community and Technical College (Blue Ridge CTC) and St. Joseph School (St. Joe’s) officially signed a dual enrollment agreement on June 3, 2026 that will provide students with a direct pathway to earn both a high school diploma and an associate degree simultaneously. Blue Ridge CTC offers several dual-enrollment programs throughout its service region. Dual-enrolled students almost reached 900 students in Fall 2025.
Beginning in Fall 2026, St. Joseph students will be able to begin the program in the tenth grade. Students will choose from two academic tracks: General Studies and Cybersecurity. Upon high school graduation, participating students will earn an associate degree from Blue Ridge CTC and then fully transfer to Shepherd University to continue their education. Dr. Peter G. Checkovich, Founding President of Blue Ridge CTC, voiced his excitement about entering into the agreement and expanding educational opportunities for students in the region. “This is Blue Ridge’s first official program that starts in the 10th grade and will end with a high school diploma and an Associate of Applied Science,” Dr. Checkovich stated.

Ms. Maria Byrd, Principal of St. Joseph School, stated, “We are grateful for this opportunity provided to our students. This working relationship <with Blue Ridge> has been very positive.” She shared that St. Joseph’s last high school program ended in 1970, making this agreement the official relaunch of the program after 56 years.
Founded 143 years ago, St. Joseph School continues to serve the Martinsburg community with a long-standing tradition of educational excellence. As of this release, St. Joseph School has enrolled 510 students across all grades for Fall 2026.
Ms. Stephanie Harvey, Vice Chair of the Blue Ridge CTC Board of Governors, shared that St. Joseph’s reputation is “highly thought of and appreciated in the community.”
