Community Free Seminars on Internet and AI Coming to Morgan County

The Morgan County School Board, in partnership with Blue Ridge Community and Technical College, will be offering a series of free seminars to the public through the Morgan County Schools Century 21 grant. All seminars are offered at no cost, but seating is limited. Seminars include:

How to Use the Internet with John Mason offers practical advice and answers questions on tasks that require the internet, such as how to connect to your telehealth appointments and doctors’ appointments, how to connect to public WIFI, what safety precautions you need to take, scams, and the danger signs of scams. Offered Wednesday, March 5, 2025, 5-7 pm.

Introduction to Computers – This course is for individuals with no computer skills or very few computer skills. Learn how to navigate the internet, internet safety, copy and paste skills, creating files, and other basics. Offered on Thursday evenings from 6-8 pm from April 17 – May 15, 2025

AI Basics for Students – Learn how to correctly and efficiently use AI for your schoolwork with Jennifer Verdugo. Offered Thursday, March 27, 2025, 5:30 pm -7 pm

Understanding AI for Parents – Learn to embrace AI and assist your children in how to appropriately use AI in their studies. Offered Thursday, April 10, 2025, 5:30 pm – 7 pm

The instructor for the AI seminars is Jennifer Verdugo. Jennifer serves as the Social Services Liaison for Jefferson County, where she plays a pivotal role in securing grant funding for local social service agencies, particularly in the area of homelessness prevention.  Jennifer also has a teaching degree and has served local schools in the Eastern Panhandle.  With a focus on streamlining processes and maximizing impact, Jennifer has integrated AI tools into her work in innovative ways, enhancing her ability to assist the community effectively and efficiently. Her forward-thinking approach enables her to provide invaluable support to agencies addressing critical social needs.
