Blue Ridge CTC Board of Governors Meeting: Dec. 2, 2020

Martinsburg, WV.  Blue Ridge Community and Technical College Board of Governors met virtually via Zoom on Wednesday, December 2, 2020. The meeting was called to order at 11:30am by Board Chair, Ms. Stephanie Harvey.

Christina Bowman, Principal from CliftonLarsonAllen, presented the audit report for fiscal year 2020. Ms. Bowman reported the audit uncovered no findings and no deficiencies to report. The Board passed a motion to accept the audit findings.

Ms. Harvey continued with the approval of the October 2020 minutes.

Dr. Checkovich presented the President’s Report, highlighting recent media articles pertaining to the Institution. Dr. Checkovich concluded his report highlighting success with the recent on site Higher Learning Commission visit held November 2020.

Dr. Craig Miller, Chief Financial Officer, presented the Human Resources Report. During the October 2020 meeting, the Board requested modifications to a new Teleworking Policy. The policy was updated and placed in the 30-day comment period. No comments were received from employees during that time. The Board passed a motion to approve the Teleworking Policy.

Dr. Ann Shipway, Vice President of Workforce and Engineering Technologies, presented the Workforce Report, beginning with an update on various grants received by the College, which will support advanced manufacturing training provided by the College.

Dr. Shipway continued the Workforce Report with an overview of Technical Program Grants currently being drafted to support program expansion at the College. Dr. Shipway concluded her report with a review of current and future Department of Labor grant projects.

Ms. Leslie See, Vice President of Enrollment presented the Enrollment Report, presenting unofficial Fall 2020 enrollment. Ms. See highlighted the impacts of COVID 19 upon enrollment and various strategies in place to continue to support students and business partners. Ms. See concluded her report with an update on COVID-19 and plans for the Spring 2021 semester.

Dr. Craig Miller, Chief Financial Officer, introduced Kristi Scarlata, Comptroller, who presented the Finance Report. Ms. Scarlata provided an overview of the College’s financial performance through September 30, 2020, noting strong financials and operations.

Executive Session was not held.

The meeting adjourned at 12:56 pm.
