New Intro to Construction Carpentry Class Builds Foundational Skills in Agribusiness Program

Martinsburg, WV. The new “Intro to Construction Carpentry” class has successfully launched as part of the Agribusiness program at Blue Ridge CTC, equipping students with the essential skills required for various agricultural and construction applications. This hands-on course provides a foundational understanding of carpentry techniques, from basic framing to roofing, skills directly relevant to building and maintaining structures on farms and in rural communities.

The Intro to Construction Carpentry class is the second of four courses designed to provide a comprehensive skillset within the Agribusiness program. Students will also have the opportunity to enroll in Agricultural Machinery Repair, where they will learn the principles of maintaining and fixing essential farm equipment; Agricultural Welding, focusing on various welding techniques applicable to agricultural needs; and Agricultural Safety and Forklift, emphasizing safe work practices and the operation of essential machinery.

The Intro to Construction Carpentry class provides students with practical experience in areas such as:

  • Basic framing techniques
  • Measuring and cutting materials accurately
  • Safe use of hand and power tools
  • Understanding construction drawings
  • Introduction to different building materials

The Agribusiness program is dedicated to equipping students with relevant and in-demand skills that directly translate into career opportunities in agriculture, construction, and related fields. This new construction carpentry course further enhances the program’s ability to prepare individuals for success in a dynamic and essential industry.
