Blue Ridge CTC Receives Initial Accreditation by the American Veterinary Medical Association

On April 29, 2024 Blue Ridge Community and Technical College received word that it has officially received initial accreditation by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA).  This accrediting body ensures veterinary technology programs meet standards set that certify a quality education experience and that the students have obtained specified knowledge and skills.

The AVMA defines Veterinary Technology as “the science and art of providing professional support to veterinarians”.  A veterinary technician’s role is to support the veterinarian and to perform duties under their direction and supervision while being in compliance with federal, state and local laws.  These roles and duties may include nursing and surgical care, anesthesiology, diagnostic imaging and clinical laboratory procedures among many others.

Once the student has graduated from an accredited college, they may go on to take their board exam (the VTNE) to officially become a Registered Veterinary Technician.  Blue Ridge Community and Technical College’s Veterinary Technology Program will have their first graduating class walk the stage at its May, 2024 graduation.

The Veterinary Technology Program, which is offered on the Morgan County campus of Blue Ridge CTC, is currently accepting applicants for their upcoming 2024 Fall Semester.  Anyone interested in receiving an application, or for more information, please reach out directly to vettech@blueridgectc.edu.
