Project Title: Digital Asset Management Technician (2 open positions)
Project Type: In-person
Duration: 4 months (16 weeks) starting summer 2023
Housing: Must be secured by the intern. A housing stipend of $800 per month will be provided.
Project Background: Harpers Ferry Center (HFC), the media and design center for the National Park Service has a 20+ years of Exhibit Project and Production files in different states of organization and condition. This includes:
30+TB of files located on a single NPS server. Many file types and formats are out date or no longer compatible with modern operating systems or software. In some cases files can be converted, in other cases cannot and are considered end of life and can be deleted.
Over 100+ of AV closeout files still sitting on removable external storage waiting to be transferred to consolidated storage.
Project Records mixed with Digital Assets that significantly reduced discoverability.
HFC is seeking to access, organize, and transfer files to asset to a DAM system and pull project files to move into a records location. We are also seeking to access license and use rights records that connect with assets found in our collection.
Project Duties:
70% – Analyzing, organizing, and preparing files to moving into other storage systems.
20% – Working with HFC Media Teams to understand file naming and folder structures and how they connect to past projects to determine a transfer and disposition schedule (what is to be saved, moved, or deleted)
10% – Working within HFC’s digital asset management systems to add metadata to existing and new assets.
Fellows will work and communicate with a Hispanic Access Program Manager during their fellowship. Fellows will be expected to participate in scheduled conference calls, webinars, and meetings conducted throughout their term. Fellows will capture photos and/or videos for reporting purposes and submit 3-5 blog posts highlighting their experience and development.
Desired Qualifications:
Highly organized with strong communication and listening skills.
General understanding of file types and opening and viewing media files.
General understanding of archiving and file naming principles.
Ability to work in Microsoft Office applications with a focus on Excel and Word. Ability to work independently.
Familiarity with Mac OS operating system and Adobe Creative Suite Applications.
Minimum Qualifications:
Undergrad or grad student in data management, media asset management, archiving, records management.
US citizen or permanent resident
Must be 17 years of age or older
Must have a driver’s license.
Stipend + Benefits:
$1,200 biweekly based on a 40 hour work week
$800 monthly housing stipend provided
Up to $400 in travel funding for relocation to and from internship location.
$50 biweekly commuting stipend provided
