The curriculum for our Education degree program includes history about the education system and teaching as a profession. At the end of the program, students are prepared to take the first round of Praxis examinations necessary to continue pursuing a career as a K-12 educator. Upon successful completion of the program, students take advantage of transfer agreements that allow students to complete their education at a four-year school.

Blue Ridge CTC’s Education degree ensures students create a foundation for teaching and learning. Upon graduation, students are prepared to transfer to a four- year institution to complete their educational journey.

This degree lays a foundation by teaching the core concepts about the education system, the teaching profession, personal learning principles, contexts of learning, instruction, student learning outcomes, and assessment. The curriculum help students:

By beginning their journey to become a K-12 educator at Blue Ridge CTC, students are able to save time and money by taking advantage of established transfer agreements with four year colleges and universities. Students begin with two years at Blue Ridge CTC preparing to sit for the first half of the Praxis Examination. Upon graduation, students enjoy seamless transfer to four-year schools with our 2+2 agreements.
Admission requirements for Blue Ridge CTC include a high school diploma or equivalent and a complete application packet. Students who have earned credits at other Colleges or Universities must also provide official copies of those transcripts. There is also a $25 application fee that can be paid at any time after submitting the application. To graduate with an Associate of Science in Education, students must:
  • Have an overall GPA of 2.75
  • Successfully pass the Praxis CORE Exams (Mathematics, Reading, and Writing)
  • Complete the coursework outlined in the catalog.
Blue Ridge CTC Associate of Science in Education program does not require ACT or SAT scores to qualify for admission. Students may need ACT or SAT scores, or free placement testing to qualify for courses such as English, Math, or Chemistry. Placement testing can be scheduled at any time during the application process.
