JOB DESCRIPTION

Position:  Intern

Salary:  Part-time, Hourly

Reporting to:  Assigned Manager

Location:  Hagerstown, PA

Hours of work:  Monday thru Friday 8 Hour Shift (Intern can work 24 hours in week base on their schedule). We will work with student to accommodate schedule.

Summary:

Parker Plastics, is looking for interns to join our team to develop systems and analysis for a wide variety of processes throughout the manufacturing area. We are looking for interns to train and participate in plastic bottle making processes. Process improvements will be accomplished through identification of downtime analysis and working closely with Production Technicians and Employees. Scope includes supporting key production improvement efforts with clear communication and solid conclusions based on data. The interns hired for this position should expect to learn all facets of manufacturing and will leave this position with invaluable skills and industry knowledge.

Responsibilities:

  • Improve productivity by performing evaluations, time studies, simulation, and line balancing
  • Study and improve plant safety through projects
  • Cost and data analysis
  • Process documentation
  • Capacity utilization analysis
  • Optimize assembly flow and process to minimize people per machine per day
  • Raw material loss and studies
  • Development of work instructions and procedures
  • Line flow studies and reports
  • Quality control measures

Requirements:

  • Applicants should be Engineering majors, with abilities in MS Office, MiniTab, AutoCad and other analytical and planning tools. They should possess strong analytic and statistic skills and have the ability to work independently.

Education:

  • High School Diploma
  • Currently enrolled in an Associate’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial and Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, Information Engineering, or similar technical area of study

Other Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn new databases or other software.
  • Working knowledge of statistics, Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Analytical, problem solving, and information gathering skills.
  • Advanced computer skills including MS Office.

Desired qualifications for this position:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop working relationships on all levels.
  • Ability to work proficiently with interns and department personnel.

Position Summary:

The Distribution Designer is responsible for the designed construction, relocation, and new business work for the Distribution function of the Company. The position leverages customer service, software use, and learned expertise in design standards and regulatory requirements. It acts as a regular point of contact for internal and external customers through the lifetime of various projects and tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate and direct a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.
  • Utilize FirstEnergy construction standards and engineering practices to complete single- and 3-phase overhead and underground designs to serve residential, commercial, and industrial requests.
  • Support job progress through customer contacts, field work, job packages, and job closeout functions including material review and paperwork verification.
  • Facilitate billing functions for line extension and applicable relocation work, including billing recommendations in non-routine scenarios.
  • Facilitate completion of outage management system (OMS) follow-up requests, inspection and maintenance repairs, streetlight installation and replacement, claims, Transmission priority repairs, aerial patrol findings, and Job & Contracting (J&C) projects.
  • Acquire permits related to railroad, Department of Transportation, and municipality road right-of-way.
  • Collaborate with customers to secure and document easements for line extensions and highway relocation work.
  • Update and maintain compliant records to support technical reports, metrics, and information systems.
  • Travel to various off-site locations as required, including FirstEnergy offices, training facilities, and customer sites.
  • Provide ongoing assistance during emergencies and storm-related activities.
  • Attend all required regulatory training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Include:

  • Associate degree in a technical discipline is required.  Consideration will be given to applicants having a minimum of 2 years extensive multi-disciplined technical and operational background in lieu of a college degree.
  • Minimum 0-3 years of related design experience is required.
  • Ability to pass the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Technician Occupations Selection System (TECH) employment test
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to guide decision-making or consensus, negotiate acceptable outcomes, and diffuse challenging situations.
  • Willingness to seek guidance and advice to fill gaps in understanding.
  • Strong self-motivation and multi-tasking skills, including the ability to manage shifting priorities.
  • Ability to interpret complex written and visual information, such as procedures, manuals, drawings, and schematics.
  • Ability to gain working familiarity with standards, codes, regulations, electrical systems, construction methods, equipment, and safety requirements, including practical applications.
  • Ability to gain proficiency in software applications including Microsoft Office, SAP, customer request work scheduling (CREWS), outage management system (OMS), and graphic work design (DDS).
  • Willingness to participate regularly in emergency and storm-related activities, including the ability to work additional hours and/or modified schedules when necessary.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle to commute to various facilities and locations as required.

  • Confirm jobs are “Ok to Print” & Final.
  • Output printing plates from the computer-to-plate software (Prinergy).

  • Cover finished plate with paper and place on a cart to be transported to the pressrooms.
  • Verify plate counts in the auto loaders & load plates as needed.
  • Maintain processors and document. (Temperature, Conductivity, # of plates).

Overall Responsibilities:

The Process Technician is responsible for providing safe and efficient operation in their assigned production process. This includes machine setups, quality inspections, documentation, organization and housekeeping around the machines or equipment.  Must be willing to work in other areas of the plant when needed to help plant operations.

Sets and monitors machine operation controls. Monitors machine/process equipment instrumentation during operation.  Keeps process conditions within control.  Prepares assigned paperwork and enters data into computer systems as necessary.  Performs quality inspections.  Participates in correcting and improving product quality and efficient machine operation.  Ensures cleanliness of assigned work area and assigned machine.

Skills and Qualifications Required:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on a repetitive basis
  • Push/Pull up to 1,500 lbs. using a wheeled cart
  • Able to work 12.25 hour rotating day/night shift in a tobacco and smoke free environment
  • Ability to work required, mandatory overtime
  • Must be able to work in hot temperatures at times
  • Manufacturing experience preferred, but not required

Education & Experience required:

  • Some computer skills required
  • Experience operating a forklift preferred
