Blue Ridge Community and Technical College’s Accelerating Student Completion: Encouraging New Dreams (Ascend) is a program created to help more students earn certificates and associate degrees within three years. Funded by a grant from Arnold Ventures, Ascend replicates the ASAP program at CUNY colleges in New York whose students doubled their graduation rates by providing a range of financial, academic, and personal supports. These supports include comprehensive and personal advisement, career counseling, tutoring, waivers for tuition and mandatory fees, gift cards for groceries and/or gas, and additional financial assistance to reduce or eliminate the cost of textbooks. The Blue Ridge Regional Work Opportunity (BRRWO), a Department of Labor Workforce Opportunity Rural Communities (WORC) funded program, is designed to help unemployed dislocated workers, new entrants into the workforce, and incumbent workers receive the skills, training, and education needed to retain current employment or improve employability. Blue Ridge Community and Technical College Job Scholars is a non-residential career training grant program authorized through the US Department of Labor. This program helps eligible young people ages 16 to 24 train for meaningful careers and obtain employment. Job Scholars graduates either enter the workforce, an apprenticeship, go on to higher education, or join the military. Job Scholars offers tuition free training opportunities, meal and transportation assistance, hands-on training with on-the-job experience, employment counseling, and apprenticeship/employment programs for students accepted into the program. Unlike grants, loans do have to be repaid. As long as you remain in school taking at least 6 credit hours you will be in an in-school deferment, and will not have to pay. Once you drop below 6 credit hours, your grace period of 6 months begins. Once your grace period ends, you will need to begin repayment of your loans. Blue Ridge CTC offers affordable tuition to all students. Tuition rates include in-state, out-of-state, metro fees, high school rate, Veteran, and Senior Citizen.
West Virginia Invests is a state-funded grant program that covers the full cost of basic tuition and fees* for select certificate and associate degree programs at a West Virginia public two- or four-year institution. Priority is given to programs in high-demand fields, such as information technology or healthcare, as determined by the West Virginia Department of Commerce. This is a last-dollar-in program, meaning that it will pay for any amount up to the total cost of tuition and fees that isn’t already covered by other state or federal grants or scholarships.
