Blue Ridge Community and Technical College’s Accelerating Student Completion: Encouraging New Dreams (Ascend) is a program created to help more students earn certificates and associate degrees within three years. Funded by a grant from Arnold Ventures, Ascend replicates the ASAP program at CUNY colleges in New York whose students doubled their graduation rates by providing a range of financial, academic, and personal supports. These supports include comprehensive and personal advisement, career counseling, tutoring, waivers for tuition and mandatory fees, gift cards for groceries and/or gas, and additional financial assistance to reduce or eliminate the cost of textbooks. Grants and scholarships are often called “gifts” because they are free money—financial aid that doesn’t have to be repaid. Grants are often based on financial need. JOB CORP SCHOLARS

Blue Ridge Community and Technical College Job Corps Scholars is a non-residential career training grant program authorized through the Job Corps US Department of Labor. This program helps eligible young people ages 16 through  24 train for meaningful careers and obtain employment. Job Corps has trained and educated over two million individuals since 1964. Job Corps Scholars graduates either enter the workforce, an apprenticeship, go on to higher education, or join the military. Job Corp offers tuition free training opportunities, meal and transportation assistance, hands-on training with on-the-job-experience, employment counseling and apprenticeship/employment programs. The Blue Ridge CTC Foundation represents an ongoing partnership between the College and the community. Every dollar raised helps students attend Blue Ridge Community and Technical College, provides funds for and improving existing facilities, and enhances and expands the curriculum. A variety of scholarships are available to Blue Ridge students through the College and the local community, based on need and academic achievement. STUDENT LOANS

Unlike grants, loans do have to be repaid. As long as you remain in school taking at least 6 credit hours you will be in an in-school deferment, and will not have to pay. Once you drop below 6 credit hours, your grace period of 6 months begins. Once your grace period ends, you will need to begin repayment of your loans. TUITION AND FEES

Blue Ridge CTC offers affordable tuition to all students. Tuition rates include in-state, out-of-state, metro fees, high school rate, Veteran and Senior Citizen.

WV INVESTS

WV Invest Logo

West Virginia Invests is a state-funded grant program that covers the full cost of basic tuition and fees* for select certificate and associate degree programs at a West Virginia public two- or four-year institution. Priority is given to programs in high-demand fields, such as information technology or healthcare, as determined by the West Virginia Department of Commerce. This is a last-dollar-in program, meaning that it will pay for any amount up to the total cost of tuition and fees that isn’t already covered by other state or federal grants or scholarships.
