Blue Ridge CTC Selected for Federal Aviation Administration Training Program
Martinsburg, WV – Blue Ridge Community and Technical College is now recognized by the Federal Aviation Administration as part of the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Collegiate Training Initiative. This designation has been awarded to the College’s drone training program, or Applied UAS Technologies degree.
The FAA’s UAS-CTI program recognizes institutions that prepare students for careers in unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), commonly referred to as drones. In order to qualify for the initiative, schools must offer a bachelor’s or associates degree in UAS or a degree with a minor, concentration, or certificate in UAS. Schools must provide curriculum covering various aspects of UAS training, including hands-on flight practice, maintenance, uses, applications, privacy concerns, safety, and federal policies concerning UAS.
Blue Ridge CTC was a leader in developing training for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), launching a two-year program in 2017. Students enrolled in the training become proficient in using drones to collect data to be analyzed and sorted by specialized software. Receipt of the FAA’s UAS-CTI designation allows for engagement with a variety of local and regional resources that ensure curriculum aligns with workforce and labor needs.
