Blue Ridge CTC Board of Governors Meeting: May 4, 2021

Martinsburg, WV.  Blue Ridge Community and Technical College Board of Governors met virtually via Microsoft Teams on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. The meeting was called to order at 11:32am by Board Chair, Ms. Stephanie Harvey.

Ms. Harvey continued with the approval of the April 2021 minutes.

Dr. Checkovich presented the President’s Report, highlighting recent media articles pertaining to the Institution.

Dr. Ann Shipway, Vice President of Workforce and Engineering Technologies, presented the Workforce Report. Dr. Shipway began by introducing Lisha Burks, ASCEND Program Director and Phi Theta Kappa Advisor. Ms. Burks informed the Board that Michael McClintock, current student at Blue Ridge CTC, was named the 2021 New Century Workforce Scholar. Mr. McClintock was the only student selected in West Virginia.

Dr. Shipway continued the meeting by introducing Amber Butcher, Director of Workforce Development Internships, who provided an event summary regarding the Tech Week event held April 12-16, 2021.

Dr. Shipway continued by introducing Tiffany Hine, Agribusiness Program Coordinator. Ms. Hine informed the Board that two high school students enrolled in Agribusiness courses participated in a national competition, placing third in the nation.

Dr. Shipway continued by introducing Cindi Hull-Miller, Associate Dean of Career Advancement. Ms. Hull-Miller shared the success of training provided to students as a result of grants received by the institution.

Leslie See, Vice President of Enrollment and Allied Health Sciences provided the Enrollment Report. Ms. See reviewed unofficial enrollment numbers for the summer 2021 term.

Ms. See concluded her report with an update on the COVID vaccine clinics held on the Blue Ridge CTC Campus.

Laura Busey, Dean of Instruction and Institutional Research, presented seven program reviews for programs including: Associate of Science in Business Administration, Certificate in Bookkeeping, Certificate in Business and Technology, Certificate in Early Childhood Specialist, Certificate and Associate of Applied Science in Electric Distribution Engineering Technology, Certificate in Information Security, Certificate in Medical Assisting.

The Board passed a motion to approve each of the program reviews.

Dr. Craig Miller, Chief Financial Officer, introduced Kristy Scarlata, Comptroller who presented the Finance Report. Ms. Scarlata provided an overview of the College’s financial performances as of March 31, 2021.

Executive Session was not held. No public vote was made.

The meeting adjourned at 12:44 pm.
