Blue Ridge CTC Board of Governors Meeting June 5, 2019

Martinsburg, WV.  Blue Ridge Community and Technical College Board of Governors met at the Main Campus in Martinsburg on Wednesday, June 5, 2019. The meeting was called to order at 12 pm by Board Chair, Keith Unger.

Mr. Unger began the meeting with election of officers for the 2019-2020 term. Ms. Stephanie Harvey was elected as Chair and Heather McIntyre was elected as Vice Chair.

Mr. Unger continued with the approval of the May 2019 minutes.

Dr. Checkovich thanked retiring Board Members, Teresa Noll, Staff Representative, Kerri Namolik, Faculty Representative, and Keisha Hicks, Student Representative, for two years of dedicated service to the Board. Dr. Checkovich introduced three new members, Jared Kuse, Student Representative, Dr. Apryl McDonough, Faculty Representative, and Kelly Shurnitski, Staff representative.

Dr. Checkovich presented the President’s Report, highlighting recent media articles pertaining to the Institution.

Dr. Ann Shipway, Vice President of Workforce and Engineering Technology, presented the Workforce Development report. Dr. Shipway updated Board Members on the P&G project. Dr. Shipway continued with an update on preparations for the Higher Learning Commission 2020 Accreditation visit. Dr. Shipway concluded her report by updating the Board on various grant projects: a newly awarded West Virginia Advanced Grant, Perkins funding applications for the upcoming fiscal year, and additional funding requests to support local business and industry training.

Ms. Leslie See, Vice President of Enrollment, presented the enrollment report. Ms. See highlighted strong summer enrollment on track with projections. Ms. See noted fall enrollment numbers will be available during the August meeting.

Dr. Checkovich presented the 2019-2020 Board of Governors meeting schedule for review and approval. The Board approved the proposed meeting schedule.

Executive Session was not held.

The meeting adjourned at 12:48 pm.
