Blue Ridge CTC Board of Governors Meeting June 4, 2020

Martinsburg, WV.  Blue Ridge Community and Technical College Board of Governors met virtually via Zoom on Wednesday, June 3, 2020. The meeting was called to order at 11:35pm by Board Chair, Ms. Stephanie Harvey.

Ms. Harvey began the meeting with the election of the 2020-2021 Officers. Keith Unger nominated Stephanie Harvey for Chair and Heather McIntyre for Vice Chair. The Board passed a motion to close nominations and elect both officers.

Ms. Harvey continued with the approval of the May 2020 minutes.

Dr. Checkovich continued the meeting by introducing Mason Bishop, Grant Consultant working with Blue Ridge CTC on the receipt of the recent 1.1 million dollar Job Corps Scholars grant. Mr. Bishop highlighted how the grant will be used to assist at-risk youth pursue educational opportunities, specifically in Morgan County, WV. The new programming includes academic and employment counseling designed to carry youth through training programs and connect them with employers.

Dr. Checkovich presented the President’s Report, highlighting recent media articles pertaining to the Institution.

Dr. Ann Shipway, Vice President of Workforce and Engineering Technologies, continued the meeting by informing the Board of an application for a Technical Program Grant that will be used to support a new Veterinarian Technician Program.

Dr. Shipway concluded her report by reviewing the Higher Learning Commission Accreditation Report, citing that the College met all 5 criteria required for accreditation, met all federal compliance standards, and has been recommended for re-accreditation.

Leslie See, Vice President of Enrollment presented the Enrollment Report, highlighting strong enrollment for the summer 2020 term. Ms. See concluded her report noting a continued response to the Unity Campaign. Details for the Unity Campaign can be found by visiting: www.blueridgectc.edu/unity

Ms. Harvey continued the meeting with the review of the proposed Board of Governors meeting dates for 2020-2021. The Board passed a motion to approve the meeting schedule.

Executive Session was held. The Board passed a motion to approve the President’s contract.

The meeting adjourned at 12:53 pm.
