Blue Ridge CTC Board of Governors Meeting February 3, 2021

Martinsburg, WV.  Blue Ridge Community and Technical College Board of Governors met virtually via Zoom on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. The meeting was called to order at 11:33am by Board Chair, Ms. Stephanie Harvey.

Ms. Harvey continued with the approval of the December 2020 minutes.

Dr. Checkovich presented the President’s Report, first noting receipt of the official notification from the Higher Learning Commission reaffirming the College’s accreditation. The next visit will occur 2029-2030.

Dr. Checkovich concluded his report, highlighting recent media articles pertaining to the Institution.

Dr. Ann Shipway, Vice President of Workforce and Engineering Technologies, presented the Workforce Report, beginning with an update on various grants received by the College. Dr. Shipway noted there are two new technical program grants currently in development.

Dr. Shipway introduced Ms. Anne Myers, Blue Ridge CTC Foundation Director. Ms. Myers highlighted that during the Spring 2021 semester, the Foundation awarded 21 scholarships totaling over $93,000. Ms. Myers noted a number of initiatives actively raising funds to support students through tuition and textbook scholarships.

Dr. Shipway concluded her report by introducing Dr. Apryl McDonough, Director of Prior Learning. Dr. McDonough highlighted an active appreciation campaign, focusing on support faculty members provide to students across the institution.

Ms. Leslie See, Vice President of Enrollment and Allied Health Sciences presented the Enrollment Report, presenting unofficial Spring 2021 enrollment. Ms. See concluded her report with an update on COVID-19 and plans for testing and vaccine distribution during the Spring 2021 semester.

Dr. Craig Miller, Chief Financial Officer, introduced Kristi Scarlata, Comptroller, who presented the Finance Report. Ms. Scarlata provided an overview of the College’s financial performance through December 31, 2020 noting strong financials and operations.

Executive Session was not held.

The meeting adjourned at 12:28 pm.
