Martinsburg, WV. Blue Ridge Community and Technical College Board of Governors met virtually via Zoom on Wednesday, August 5, 2020. The meeting was called to order at 11:31am by Board Chair, Ms. Stephanie Harvey.
Ms. Harvey continued with the approval of the June 2020 minutes.
Dr. Checkovich continued the meeting with an update regarding the Job Corps Scholars Grant. Dr. Checkovich reviewed the Return to Campus Guidelines. The President’s Report concluded with a highlight of recent media articles pertaining to the Institution.
Dr. Ann Shipway, Vice President of Workforce and Engineering Technologies, presented the Workforce Report, beginning with an update on the Procter and Gamble project. Dr. Shipway continued with an update on grants submitted to support manufacturing and other training needs within the community.
Dr. Shipway introduced Lisha Burks, Ascend Program Director, who reviewed the new grant program, which launches Fall 2020. The goal of Ascend is to accelerate student graduation rates by providing financial support for tuition, textbooks, and also a monthly incentive to assist with gas and groceries. Dr. Shipway concluded her report by introducing Cynthia Hull-Miller, Associate Dean of Career Advancement and Ms. Kim Moss, Director of Customized Workforce Training, who highlighted how the College is providing customized workforce training options to local community businesses and partners. Despite the current global pandemic, business and industry continue to depend upon Blue Ridge CTC to provide quality training solutions. A wide variety of workshops and trainings have been offered virtually to support business needs.
Ms. Laura Busey, Dean of Instruction, presented Program Reviews for the Associate of Applied Science in Accounting, Associate of Applied Science and Certificate of Applied Science in Mechatronics, Certificate of Applied Science in Computer Aided Design, Certificate of Applied Science in CISCO Certified Network Associate, Associate of Applied Science in Information Technology, Associate of Science in Education, Certificate of Applied Science in Business Operation, Associate of Applied Science and Certificate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts, Associate of Applied Science in Occupational Development, and the Associate of Applied Science in Physical Therapist Assisting. The Board passed a motion to submit the reviews to the WVCTCS.
Ms. Leslie See, Vice President of Enrollment presented the Enrollment Report, beginning with an update on the Unity Campaign, which has provided strong support to the local community. Ms. See concluded her report reviewing healthy enrollment for the Fall 2020 semester.
Dr. Craig Miller, Chief Financial Officer, began the Human Resources Report by introducing Morgan Gower, Director of Human Resources. Dr. Miller presented a new Teleworking Policy for Board review. The Board passed a motion to place the policy in the 30-day comment period. The Board also passed a motion to approve the Policy if no comments are received.
Dr. Craig Miller, Chief Financial Officer, presented the Finance Report. Dr. Miller provided an overview of the College’s current financial position, noting strong financials and operations.
Executive Session was not held.
