Community and Technical College Gets New Name

Martinsburg, West Virginia (July 1, 2006) – The Community and Technical College of Shepherd has seen significant progress over the years and they are about to embark on another exciting change, a new name effective July 1, 2006.  Blue Ridge Community and Technical College is an independent educational institution, accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association.

“Receiving independent accreditation signifies tremendous growth and presents so many opportunities for our college,” stated Dr. Peter Checkovich, President of Blue Ridge Community and Technical College.  “We are highly optimistic about the future of the Blue Ridge Community and Technical College and the impact we will have on students and the local workforce.”

Blue Ridge Community and Technical College will continue the same tradition of offering an affordable, high quality education.  They offer more than 40 associate degree and certification courses, including business, criminal justice, information technology, and nursing.  Classes are flexible, with your choice of day, evening and online courses.  In addition, Blue Ridge Community and Technical College offers Workforce Development services to businesses in the region, which includes customized skills-based training and performance improvement.  “One of our goals is to make our area more marketable by offering a highly skilled, well educated workforce,” stated Ann Shipway, Dean of the Economic and Workforce Development Division.
