Mechatronics Program Advances

Martinsburg, WV. Blue Ridge Community and Technical College instructors Alan Zube and David Teets, recently completed industry training that provides great opportunities for the institution. In August of 2014, the pair traveled to Berlin, Germany to complete a Siemens Level 2 Instructor Certification course. This certification paves the way for Blue Ridge Community and Technical College to become a certified Siemens training partner, and allows graduates to sit for the Siemens Mechatronics Certification exam at both Level 1 and Level 2. The Siemens Certification is an internationally recognized 3rd party certification and allows the College to prepare world class technicians to enter the field of Mechatronics.

The state of the art Mechatronics classrooms, located at the Technology center, have been reviewed and approved by Siemens representatives. The first class of Blue Ridge Community and Technical College students sit for the Level 1 assessment during the Spring of 2015. Successful completion of this certification allows students to become Siemens Certified Mechatronic Systems Assistants.

The addition of this certification will allow the College to continue to produce successful graduates to work in the industry. A recent graduate of the Mechatronics program, Jason Dick, has found employment with Monoflo, a local plastic reusable transfer packaging manufacturer located in Winchester, VA. After being hired on, Jason’s employment lead to the development of a partnership between Blue Ridge Community and Technical College and Monoflo.

In support of the Mechatronics program, Monoflo recently donated a Fanuk 410 robot to the institution. The Fanuk 410 is an intelligent, palletizing robot, which costs over $30,000. This robot is assessed between $8000-$17000, and will be used in the Mechatronics program to supplement the already high quality instruction.
