Peer Tutor Program
Becoming a Tutor:
- Tutoring is available in most subjects and is a free service.
- Tutors have either been recommended by an instructor or are interviewed by the tutor coordinator and meet the criteria for peer tutoring:
- Has a 2.6 GPA and earned a 3.0 in the course he/she will be tutoring
- Must be enrolled in at least six hours at Blue Ridge CTC
- Must attend an in-service workshop to review the Tutor Handbook and to discuss the peer tutor program in general
How to Sign Up for a Tutor:
- Come to the Academic Support Center and complete a contact sheet.
- Student contacts tutor directly via phone or e-mail to set up tutor session (information is located on board in the Academic Support Center).
- Times for tutor sessions are up to the tutor.
- Place for the tutor session can be the Academic Support Center, a vacant classroom, the Atrium, or any location upon which both the tutor and tutee agree.
The Writing Center
- Tutors are available to any students who need help writing.
- Tutors work with students during all steps of the writing process, from brainstorming to final editing.
- Although seeing a writing tutor is sometimes recommended or required by an instructor, students are encouraged to seek tutoring help on their own.
- Sessions are available by appointment, and walk-ins are also welcome.

English as a Second Language Services
- Free tutoring by certified ESL tutors is also available to registered Blue Ridge CTC students.
