Biography: Currently Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Transitional Studies, Dr. Unger is working with her faculty to improve the satisfaction, retention, and success of BR CTC students. A former developmental English coordinator and public school teacher, Dr. Unger holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education/Language Arts from Shepherd University. She also earned her Master’s degree in Special Education/Specific Learning Disabilities and Doctorate in Higher Education Leadership at West Virginia University (WVU). Dr. Unger is proud to lead her dedicated liberal arts faculty in their efforts to provide a quality education for all students. With a genuine love for learning and over twenty-five years of teaching and learning experience, Dr. Unger is always searching for ways to motivate students and provide them with a “can-do” attitude.

Biography: Ms. Ellen Moore is the Sr. Administrative Secretary for the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Transitional Studies. She received her RBA from Shepherd University in 2005. Ms. Moore also earned an AAS Business and an AAS Paralegal in 2005 at CTC Shepherd.

Biography: Mrs. AnnaMary Walsh is the Coordinator of Student Academic Support Services for Blue Ridge CTC. Services provided are the Peer Tutor Program, Early Alert Program, and Academic Recovery Program. She advises students in the Academic Recovery Program as well as special, non-degree-seeking students. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Shepherd College (University), with a minor in History. Currently the Coordinator for Academic Support Services at Blue Ridge CTC, Mrs. Walsh has thirty years of prior experience in higher education, ranging from administrative services in the Department of Athletics, public services in Ruth Scarborough Library, and Student Academic Support Services at Shepherd College (University).

Biography: Ms. Rebecca Moore is the content specialist for Communications and Political Science. She earned her Bachelor’s of Science (BS) degree from Shepherd College in 1990 with a major of Political Science and a minor in Communications. She earned a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from West Virginia University in 1994. She earned an Education Specialist (EdS) degree from The George Washington University in 2005. Ms. R. Moore teaches the following courses: CGEN 100: Critical Thinking & Learning; PSCI 101: American Federal Government, and COMM 202: Fundamentals of Communication.

Biography: Ms. Cindy Stewart is an Associate Professor in the School of Liberal Arts and Transitional Studies (LATS). She is the Program Coordinator for the Liberal Arts Degree Program, the Professional Development Certificate Program, and the Developmental Reading Program. Ms. Stewart has a Reading Specialist Certificate from West Virginia University. She earned her Master’s degree in Literacy Studies from the School of Human Resources at West Virginia University. Ms. Stewart teaches the following courses: CGEN 100 and ACFN 095.

MR. JAMES RALSTON

Biography: Jim Ralston is Assistant Professor of English at Blue Ridge CTC, and before that taught writing and literature 22 years at Shepherd University. He was a columnist for the Charleston Gazette from 1991 to 2005 and was recently a community columnist for The Martinsburg Journal. Publications include a book of poetry , “The Poet’s Car”; a collection of essays and reflections, “The Choice of Emptiness”; and a grammar, “The Appalachian Grammar Shop.” Six of his plays have been produced, the latest, “The Lone Star League,” at the Main Stage of Frostburg State University (2006) and at the Civic Apollo Theatre in Martinsburg (2007). |

MS. DEIDRE MORRISON

Biography: Ms. Deidre Morrison coordinates the Developmental Writing and English as a Second Language (ESL) Programs at Blue Ridge CTC and acts as the Content Area Specialist for foreign language courses (Spanish and sign language) and developmental writing courses. She is also the Director of the Writing Center. Ms. Morrison is an instructor in the School of Liberal Arts and Transitional Studies (LATS). Ms. Morrison serves as the advisor to the Blue Ridge Residential Writers Group and is the faculty representative to the Student Government Association. Ms. Morrison is a certified ESL tutor and tutor trainer. Ms. Morrison has studied at Bryn Mawr College, Delaware Valley College, and Hagerstown Community College. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Education at Shepherd College. Ms. Morrison teaches the following courses: ACFN010, CGEN100, ENGL100, and ENGL199.

Biography: Ms. Marcella Townsend is currently the Developmental Mathematics (ACFN Math) and General Studies Physical Education (GSPE) Content Area Coordinator and lecturer in the School of Liberal Arts and Transitional Studies (LATS). Ms. Townsend has teaching certificates in Hatha Yoga and Reiki Level III. She is a 200-Hour Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with a minor in Economics from Shepherd University. She also earned AAS degree in Aviation Management from the Community College of the Air Force. Ms. Townsend teaches the following courses: ACFN 065, ACFN 085, GSPE 197, and GSPE 198. |

Biography: Mrs. Chiquita D. Howard-Bostic is currently Social Science Content Area Coordinator and lecturer in the School of Liberal Arts and Transitional Studies (LATS). Mrs. Howard-Bostic is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Sociology at Virginia Tech. She has research and teaching certificates in Woman Studies and Race and Social Policy. She earned her Master’s degree (MUP) in Urban and Regional Planning, with a specialization in Urban Management, from the School of Architecture and Regional Planning at the State University of New York at Buffalo (UB). She also earned BA degrees in Social Science Interdisciplinary Studies and English, with a concentration in Legal Studies, from UB. Mrs. Howard-Bostic teaches the following courses: SOCI 203, SOCI 203 (Online), CJUST299, SOCI 299, and PSYC 205.

Biography: Mr. Garrett W. Rice is the College Transition Program Coordinator and lecturer in the School of Liberal Arts and Transitional Studies (LATS). He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, with a concentration in Ethics, at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. He also earned an AAS degree in Criminal Justice from Alleghany College of Maryland. Mr. Rice teaches the following courses: PHIL 101 and ORIE 199.

Biography: Mr. Todd Young is currently English Content Area Coordinator and lecturer of English in the School of Liberal Arts and Transitional Studies (LATS). He earned his Master’s degree in English, with a specialization in Dramatic Literature, from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. He earned his BA degree in English from Shepherd University. Mr. Young teaches the following courses: ENGL 101, ENGL 101 (Online), ENGL 102, and ENGL 102 (Online).
