Academic Recovery Program
The Academic Recovery (AR) program is designed for students who would like to reapply or transfer to Blue Ridge CTC but have a college/university G.P.A. that is less than 2.0. Blue Ridge CTC will conditionally admit students with GPAs between 1.5 and 2.0. Students with less than a 1.5 may be admitted into this program on a case-by-case basis. The Admissions Office will select students for this program. The student may take no more than thirteen credits per semester and must earn a 2.3 GPA during their first semester at Blue Ridge CTC, then maintain a 2.0 GPA for each semester after the initial semester. Academic Recovery students will not be admitted into any two-year degree program until the student’s cumulative GPA has reached a minimum of 2.0. An AR student will be advised by the Program Specialist of Academic Support Services, which is under the School of Liberal Arts and Transitional Studies. Progress and adherence to the established guidelines will be monitored closely.
Early Alert Program
The Early Alert (EA) program is designed to help those students who are having academic difficulty at any point during any semester at Blue Ridge CTC.
Studies have shown there is a connection between academic performance and the transition from either high school or the workforce into the collegiate environment. Our students have other responsibilities/issues with family, finances, work, or health, and we need to supply as much academic support as we can. Faculty complete forms to notify the Program Specialist for Academic Support Services about students who are not completing their work or who are not attending class regularly. The student is put on course by following a goal-oriented program to meet the requirements of each course. Tutoring, time management, meeting with the instructor, or developing better study skills are steps taken to guide the student to succeed in the designated course.
