Business

Business Program The A.A.S. Business Program is an introduction to business concepts and theory.  This degree prepares the graduate for entry-level opportunities in service organizations, retail locations, and administration.  Electives in this program allow the student to select courses from a variety of subjects related to business or concentrate on his or her studies in a specific area X    
Business and Technology

The Business & Technology Certificate combines general education and business courses for the purpose of serving students studying business, office technology, and information technology.  This certificate assures employers that the student has an introductory knowledge of the business environment, commonly used office technology programs, and up and coming trends affecting business and society.

Organizational Leadership Development The Certificate in Organizational Leadership Development focuses on the study of leadership in organizations in which students develop an understanding of how an organization operates.  Students will learn how leadership is important in every organization, how change impacts the individual and the organization, and how the role of a leader is a major function of management.   X  
Board of Governors
Board of Governors

The Board of Governors A.A.S. requires 60 credit hours, which include a general education core of 21 credit hours and 39 credit hours consisting of general electives. The structure of the degree assures flexibility in program design to meet the individual needs of adult students.

Collaborative Programs

Automotive Program

Automotive Technology is fully ASE certified and prepares the student for an entry-level position in the automotive industry.  Students spend fifty percent of their time in supervised shop practice and the other fifty percent in the classroom studying related theory.  Certification through ASE is encouraged.

The Automotive Technology Program is a cooperative effort of the Blue Ridge CTC and James Rumsey Technical Institute, located near Martinsburg, WV.  Students must apply for admission to both Blue Ridge CTC and to James Rumsey Technical Institute.

HVAC/Refrigeration Program

This program prepares students to install, maintain, and repair equipment and accessory units for commercial, residential, and industrial usage.  Students study the repair of home appliances, such as icemakers, window air conditioners, freezers, and refrigerators as well as the servicing of commercial air conditioning systems and heat pumps.

The HVAC & R Program is a cooperative effort of the Blue Ridge CTC and James Rumsey Technical Institute located near Martinsburg, WV.  Students must apply for admission to both Blue Ridge CTC and to James Rumsey Technical Institute.

Criminal Justice
Criminal Justice As the criminal justice field has experienced strong and rapid growth in the past decade, it is anticipated that the need for skilled workers will continue to increase.  X    
Justice System The Justice System Certificate provides an introductory study if criminal justice including security, police, and corrections.  Students are encouraged to select restricted electives that complement career and academic goals.    X  
Homeland Security The Homeland Security Certificate will introduce students to the Department of Homland Security, domestic and international terrorism issues, and strategies for countering terrorist threats. The key principles of emergency management and disaster planning will be presented.   X  
Information Technology
Information Technology

The Information Technology program offers an associate of applied science degree, incorporating vendor certification training, for students preparing for entry-level employment or advancement in a variety of occupations, courses, and professional certificate programs in Information Technology.

Technology Systems The Technology System Certificate combines traditional professional and business communication with information technology.  Certification such as A+, CIW, and MCAS work well with the restricted electives in this program; therefore, enhancing the credential that a Technology System Certificate provides.   X

Office Technology
Office Technology

The Office Technology concentration prepares students for careers in management support in areas such as administrative assistants and office managers with an emphasis on computer skills, office technology and various computer applications. In addition to the core set  of Office Technology courses these students investigate Publication Design, Office Administration and Local Area Networking,  as well as have three electives in Office, Business and Technology to choose from.

The Medical Office concentration provides a comprehensive understanding of the skills necessary for work in physicians’ offices, insurance companies, billing companies, hospitals, nursing homes, and other health care facilities. Knowledge of medical billing, collections, and reimbursement guidelines are necessary for successful employment in a health care office or facility. The five classes in the medical office concentration are usually offered in a block format together online. Students seeking this concentration must take this block of courses together when offered. This course block is generally offered once every two years opposite the legal concentration block of courses. The student and academic advisor will work together to ensure registration for the medical office concentration classes.

The Legal Office concentration provides a comprehensive understanding of the skills necessary for work in a legal environment. Knowledge of legal terminology, research, writing, and law are vital for employment in the legal field. The classes in the legal office concentration are only offered in a block online format similar to that of the Medical Office Block. Students seeking this concentration must take this course block as a single unit. This course block is generally offered once every two years opposite the medical concentration block of courses. The student and academic advisor will work together to ensure registration for the legal office concentration classes.

Microsoft Certified Application Specialist (MCAS)
Validates skills with using the 2007 Microsoft Office system and Windows Vista. The successor to the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) credential, each software program in the Office 2007 suite has a separate exam. We are already on board with the following:

Legal Office Assistant

The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Paralegal Studies is a program designed to provide students with a balance between theory and practice, enabling graduates to step immediately into opportunities in this growing area of the legal community.  The program is designed to prepare individuals for employment at all levels of the law-administration, trial, appellate, and government.

 

The Legal Office Assistant Certificate is the first year of the A.A.S. Paralegal Studies Degree.  This certificate also serves secretaries, administrative assistants, and office managers who are interested in law and procedure.  This certificate represents the foundation of knowledge that may be applied in a variety of legal office situations.

Information Technology Certification Tracks
3ds Max

This exciting new online certificate program will teach students how to use both 3ds Max and Character Studio to design, develop, and animate 3D video game characters.

The student will be able to test for certification and be able to repair and maintain a computer and will earn seven (7) college credit hours.

Certified Internet Webmaster

CIW Stands for Certified Internet Webmaster.  This program is currently under review due to changing certification requirements. CIW includes the following courses:


IT 236 Web Page Design with HTML, XML, and scripting
IT 245 Internet Foundations
IT 246 Site Designer

These three courses lead to the CIW Professional certificate (2 exams)

Video Game Design and Development The Video Game Design and Development online program lays the groundwork for students who wish to learn the high-end techniques and engineering principles behind modern videogame technology.
