General Information:
The A.A.S. Business Program is an introduction to business concepts and theory. This degree prepares the graduate for entry-level opportunities in service organizations, retail locations, and adminstration. Electives in this program allow the student to select courses from a variety of subjects related to business or concentrate on his or her studies in a specific area. Online classes and a rotating day/evening schedule make this degree an optimal choice for part-time students.
The A.A.S. Business program coordinates the integration of program goals in multiple courses. The course(s) listed after each program is the primary delivery method used to meet the stated goal.
- Comprehend basic accounting and perform the functions in a business environment using traditional and computer software methods.
- Understand the legal, ethical, and regulatory environment of business.
- Apply the concepts of economics as it relates to decision-making of consumers and retailers.
- Develop and implement both a business and a marketing plan.
- Recognize the roles and responsibilities of business in a global environment.
- Grasp the historical foundation of management science and apply management techniques in an office/business setting using case studies and classroom presentations.
- Perform research using various methods (surveys, technology, literature, and interviews) to gather and compile information about topics such as finance, management, marketing, law, etc.
- Present projects, research, or assignments using presentation technology.
- Appreciate, identify, and model ethical decision-making and behavior.
- Implement the theories and practice the skills learned in the A.A.S. Business program in a supervised internship.
- Demonstrate the ability to prepare communication in various forms and organizational themes.
- Participate in team exercises, evaluate the roles of team members, and apply human relations skills within the team.
Students in the Business Program are subject to the Community and Technical College's requirements for admissions, basic skills testing, and appropriate course placement, including mandated remedial courses, which are not counted toward completion of the program. Blue Ridge Community and Technical College Catalog requirements regarding academic standards, student conduct, and graduation procedures also apply.
