Martinsburg, WV. More than 2,000 of America’s best and brightest college students traveled to the Eastern Shore to Elevate their Futures as they competed for the opportunity to win more than $95,000 in cash awards.

The Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) National Leadership Conference was held June 23–26 in Baltimore, Maryland. Participants from across the United States attended this exciting conference to enhance their business skills, expand their networks, and participate in 60 business and business-related competitive events.

Scott Wright and Eileen Kusnirak from Blue Ridge Community and Technical College in Martinsburg received national recognition at the PBL Awards of Excellence Program on June 26th. The Desktop Publishing event consists of creating a prejudged set of items for a hypothetical company.  The student produces a solution to a problem that is given a few months prior to nationals.  The second portion of the event consists of taking an online, timed exam to test the students’ knowledge on desktop publishing concepts.

The Small Business Management Plan event is a pre-judged plan of a small business put together by the student.  The event consists of a maximum of thirty page plan followed by a presentation at nationals.  The small business chosen by Kursnriak was a yet-to-be created business titled The Gaming Zone, LLC.

The award was part of a comprehensive national competitive events program sponsored by FBLA-PBL that recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. For many students, the competitive events are the capstone activity of their academic careers. In addition to competitions, students immersed themselves in interactive workshops, visited an information-packed exhibit hall, and heard from motivational keynotes on a broad range of business topics.
