Martinsburg, WV. The 13th Annual Collegiate Student Business Plan Competition hosted by the College of Business & Economics at West Virginia University received 281 business plans from students throughout West Virginia. Students submitted plans within three categories, including Lifestyle and Innovation, Hospitality and Tourism, and STEM. Students compete for a grand prize of $10,000, in addition to receiving free legal and accounting advice, and the opportunity to start a new business in the state. The competition was open to any full-time student at a West Virginia college or university in any major.

This year, six Blue Ridge CTC students competed. Roxanne Roach and Caroline Thorp, both Agribusiness students at Blue Ridge CTC, are moving forward to the semi-final round. These students were two of ten selected from 122 participants in the Lifestyle and Innovation category. Roach’s plan, Roxanne’s Garden and Farm Stand, and Thorp’s, Hydro Sustainable, LLC, both move on to the semifinal event hosted in Sutten, WV on November 16th.

This is the second year students from Blue Ridge CTC participated in the business plan competition. Faculty advisor Todd Cimino-Johnson stated, “This business plan competition allows Blue Ridge CTC students to showcase the Eastern Panhandle. We had six great ideas this year. Next year we hope to submit more entries. The goal is for these students to begin successful businesses located in the Eastern Panhandle.”

The final competition will take place April 12th, 2019 in Fairmont, West Virginia. The winners for each category will be announced at that time.
