Blue Ridge CTC Student Wins Business Plan Competition

Martinsburg, WV. Blue Ridge Community and Technical College hosted its first annual business plan competition for students and future students. The competition opened January 1st for those interested to submit ideas.

The winner of the competition was Roxanne Roach of Roxanne’s Garden.  Roach won a $2,000 scholarship for the fall semester to Blue Ridge CTC. The Blue Ridge CTC Foundation and CNB Bank of Berkeley Springs each contributed $1,000 toward the scholarship. In addition, Roach received six months of free office space at the Spring Tech Innovation Lab located at the Pines Opportunity Center in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.

Roxanne’s Garden is a seven acre area to be used for intensive fruit and vegetable growing. The vision of the business is to grow quality vegetables and berries using organic methods and sustainable farming practices. The business provides educational opportunities to customers and school children, in addition to selling quality produce in northern Berkeley County, West Virginia. As part of the business plan development process, Roach prepared both a marketing and financial plan to help ensure the success of her business.

Individuals who competed were offered a free spot at the next Small Business Development Centers Fundamentals Seminar. The seminar is offered by the West Virginia Small Business Development Center. Blue Ridge CTC plans to offer the scholarship again next year to students and potential students.
