Blue Ridge CTC Designated National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education

Martinsburg, WV. Blue Ridge Community and Technical College has received special designation from the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security for information technology programs that prepare students for careers in Cyber Security. The College has been named a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education through the year 2021.

This institutional designation ensures academic programs include components that promote cyber awareness and cyber security throughout institutional policy and practice, along with outreach efforts within the community. Receiving this designation validates that students are prepared to meet the demands of the information technology industry upon entry into the workforce. Additionally, continuing education is promoted through scholarship opportunities offered to students.

Receiving this designation entails an intensive process that requires the Institution to prove how the technical curriculum in information technology programs align with the Center of Academic Excellence criteria outlined by the National Security Agency, National Institution of Standards and Technology, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense and National Science Foundation. In the state of West Virginia, Blue Ridge CTC and West Virginia University are the only two institutions that have met all criteria and been awarded this designation.

Blue Ridge CTC was recognized at the Center of Academic Excellence Community Meeting, held in San Diego, CA, on Monday, November 2, 2015. Michele Morrison, Associate Dean for the Division of Information Technology, Cyber Security Program Coordinator, and Anthony Hanners, Information Technology Program Coordinator, traveled on behalf of the College to receive the award (pictured from left to right: Steven Lafoundation, National Security Agency, Michele Morrison, Blue Ridge CTC, Anthony Hanners, Blue Ridge CTC, Daniel Stein, Department of Homeland Security).
