Blue Ridge CTC Board of Governors Meeting: October 2, 2019

Martinsburg, WV.  Blue Ridge Community and Technical College Board of Governors met at the Main Campus in Martinsburg on Wednesday, October 2, 2019. The meeting was called to order at 12:04 pm by Board Chair, Ms. Stephanie Harvey.

Ms. Harvey continued with the approval of the August 2019 minutes.

Dr. Checkovich presented the President’s Report, highlighting recent media articles pertaining to the Institution.

Dr. Ann Shipway, Vice President of Workforce and Engineering Technology, presented the Workforce Development report. Dr. Shipway updated Board Members on various grant projects. Dr. Shipway informed the Board of a comprehensive review of contracted training currently underway. The purpose of this review is to continue to enhance the College’s customized workforce training programming. Dr. Shipway concluded her report with an update on the upcoming Higher Learning Commission 2020 Accreditation visit.

Dr. Shipway introduced Jane Peters, who is working with SpringTech Innovation Lab in Berkeley Springs, WV. Ms. Peters provided an update on the progress of SpringTech, including companies currently housed in the business incubator in Morgan County.

Dr. Shipway introduced Michele Morrison, Associate Dean of Mathematics and Sallie Sterling, Math Department Head. Ms. Morrison and Ms. Sterling provided an update on growth within the Math department.

Dr. Shipway introduced Amber Butcher, Internship Coordinator. Ms. Butcher provided an update on Tech Day, held on September 4, 2019. This event provided the opportunity for students seeking internships to connect with industry experts within the technology field.

Ms. Leslie See, Vice President of Enrollment, presented the enrollment report. Ms. See noted unofficial fall enrollment of over 6500 students. Overall, Ms. See noted unofficial enrollment has increased from fall 2018.

Ms. Kristy Scarlata, Comptroller, presented the Finance Report with an overview of FY 19 quarter financials, noting a strong financial position.

Executive Session was not held.

The meeting adjourned at 1:27 pm.
