Blue Ridge CTC Board of Governors Meeting 5.3.17

Martinsburg, WV. Blue Ridge Community and Technical College Board of Governors met at the Main Campus in Martinsburg on Wednesday, May 3, 2017. The meeting was called to order at 11:59 am by Board Chair, Keith Unger.

Mr. Unger began the meeting with the approval of the April 2017 meeting minutes.

Dr. Checkovich continued the meeting with the President’s report, beginning with an overview of recent media stories regarding the College.

Dr. Checkovich welcomed seven special guests from Shentel: Ed McKay, Senior Vice President-Wireline and Engineering, Becky Nucilli, Director-Human Resources, Cara Lord, Fleet Coordinator, Jeffrey McCarson, Senior Maintenance Technician-Field Operations, Tim Byerly Safety Coordinator, Bill Siford, Director of Building and Grounds, and Lee West, Graphic Designer-Cable and Wireline Marketing. Blue Ridge CTC provides a variety of training options to Shentel, including bucket truck safety, pole climbing and ladder training. As a result of this partnership, Shentel donated a bucket truck to the College (picture attached). This generous donation will be used to provide high quality training to students within the utility industry.

Dr. Craig Miller, Chief Financial Officer, began the finance report by introducing Kristy Scarlata, Comptroller, who presented the third quarter financial performance report. Ms. Scarlata reported strong financials for the conclusion of the third quarter.

Ms. Leslie See, Vice President of Enrollment Management, presented the Enrollment Report for the 2017 Summer term. Ms. See concluded her report by highlighting an increase in summer enrollment in comparison with previous years.

Executive Session was not held. The meeting adjourned at 1:07 p.m.
