Martinsburg, WV. Blue Ridge Community and Technical College Board of Governors met at the Main Campus in Martinsburg on Wednesday, April 5, 2017. The meeting was called to order at 12:04 pm by Board Chair, Keith Unger.
Mr. Unger began the meeting with the approval of the March 2017 meeting minutes.
Dr. Checkovich continued the meeting with the President’s report, beginning by welcoming Anthony Hanners, Cyber Security Program Coordinator. Mr. Hanners introduced Garrett Renner and Lowell Tyson, two Computer Technology students who have successfully transitioned into the industry after attending Blue Ridge CTC.
Mr. Renner is currently seeking degrees in Cyber Security and Computer Networking Engineering Technology. The advanced training offered within these programs has allowed Mr. Renner to secure a position working for a federal contractor prior to graduating this May.
Mr. Tyson earned four technology degrees with the College, which included Computer Networking Engineering Technology, Information Technology, Cyber Security, and Applied Technology. Mr. Tyson has also secured employment with the federal government and has transferred to West Virginia University at Parkersburg to complete his Bachelor’s degree.
Dr. Checkovich concluded the President report by updating Board members on several news articles highlighting the Institution.
Dr. Ann Shipway, Vice President of Workforce Engineering Technology, provided the Workforce Development report, focusing on the receipt of West Virginia Advanced Grants. The College is using these funds to employ faculty for various advanced manufacturing courses aligning with industry partner needs. Dr. Shipway concluded her report with an update on capital projects underway to expand facilities at the Technology Center.
Ms. Leslie See, Vice President of Enrollment Management, presented the Enrollment Report, showing enrollment for the Spring 2017 exceeds figures from Spring 2016. Ms. See highlighted an increase in overall headcount enrollment and strong projections for final spring enrollment.
Dr. Craig Miller, Chief Financial Officer, began the finance report with a discussion about the budget proposals for higher education currently under review in Charleston, WV. Dr. Miller indicated that a full finance report would be presented at the May 2017 meeting.
Dr. George Perry, Vice President of Instruction, presented Board members with program reviews for 12 certificate and degree programs. The Board passed a motion to approval all of the programs.
Executive Session was held. No public vote was made. The meeting adjourned at 12:59 p.m.
