Blue Ridge Community and Technical College has a limited number of scholarships which are awarded for the programs indicated in the descriptions. Check with your division or your advisor to see if they are aware of additional scholarships for specific majors that are not listed here. Most scholarships require that the FAFSA be filed and may specify financial need for eligibility.
Berkeley County Crime Solvers Scholarship (Criminal Justice)
Recipient chosen by the Criminal Justice Department.
Charles Town Lions Club Nursing Scholarship (Nursing)
This scholarship was established in 1999 to provide awards to nursing students.
Nursing students chosen by the Nursing Department faculty.
C. Vincent Townsend EMS Scholarship (Safety Technology)
Dr. Townsend was the regional Medical Director of North Eastern Regional Emergency Medical Services for more than 20 years. Upon his retirement, members of the EMS community established this scholarship in his honor. Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia Safety Management student.
District VI Nurses Scholarship (Nursing)
This scholarship was established to provide support for Nursing students. Designated for high school graduates of District VI of the West Virginia Nurses Association, 3.0 GPA and displaying financial need.
D. Lee Morgan Scholarship (Fire Science)
Established in 2002 to honor D. Lee Morgan, he was a career firefighter in Shepherdstown and helped develop the Fire Science Program. He served on the college’s board of advisors and received the college’s President’s Medal Award in 1991. Awarded annually to students majoring in fire science, with a minimum GPA of 2.5, by the Fire Science faculty and approved by the Financial Aid and Scholarship Committee.
Ernest Houser, Jr. and Gladys V. Houser, RN Scholarship (Nursing)
Gladys Houser was a registered nurse, employed by Charles Town General Hospital for 45 years, and she helped to establish the first intensive care unit at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Designated for Nursing majors, preference to West Virginia residents.
Ida Elizabeth Hendricks Scholarship (Developmental Mathematics Student)
Mrs. Ida Elizabeth Hendricks served her students and the community as the Coordinator of Developmental Mathematics Education at both Shepherd College and CTC Shepherd. In honor of her long service and commitment, Mr. William Hendricks created a scholarship for developmental mathematics students. Applications are reviewed by a committee which awards the scholarship. Eligibility is restricted to students actively engaged in developmental mathematics education during the spring semester of their application. Application requirements include grade selectivity, a letter of recommendation, and a personal essay.
La Societe Des 40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux Scholarship (Nursing)
Translated as the Society of 40 Men and 8 Horses, the name refers to the World War I French boxcars, which could transport either 40 men or 8 horses. In 1946, the acute shortage of nurses came to the attention of the Voyageurs and a Nurses’ training program was initiated. Jefferson County Voiture of 40 & 8 has pledged an annual gift in support of financially needy nursing students. Designated for nursing students displaying financial need, resident of Jefferson or Berkeley Counties, West Virginia, recipient selected by Blue Ridge CTC Nursing faculty. Preference given to veterans or families of veterans.
Leonard J. McCormack Endowment for Nursing (Nursing)
Established in 1999 by L.J. McCormack of Clearbrook, VA, this scholarship is for the support of nursing awards and programming and honors his wife. The McCormack endowment will fund several substantial scholarships annually and recipients are selected by the Nursing Department. Financial need as determined by the FAFSA.
M. Douglass Harlan Memorial Scholarship (Female, Head of Household)
This scholarship is awarded by Blue Ridge CTC and is open to 2-year degree students who have at least a 2.0 GPA and are enrolled full time. This scholarship is based on financial need and is renewable. It is not awarded for summer sessions. Financial need for female, head of household, up to $1000 per year. Also available to FT staff for half the cost of books, or a maximum of $100 per year, if the employee is not eligible for other funds, such as Staff Development.
Mary Livers Thorn Memorial Scholarship (Nursing)
Mary Thorn established a trust in Old National Bank to provide support for student nurses training in Kings Daughters Hospital. Student nurses training to include tuition and fees.
Parsons Scholarship (Nursing)
Established in memory of Jean Parsons to honor her career in nursing. Designated for nursing majors with financial need.
Reese Scholarship (Nursing)
Nursing majors.
Rice Scholarship (Nursing)
Established in 1959, the scholarship originally provided scholarships at King’s Daughter Hospital in Martinsburg. Nursing majors.
Ruth Brant Memorial Scholarship (Nursing)
Mr. Terry Brant established this scholarship in memory of his wife, Ruth Brant. Designated for General Academic, preference given to Nursing students, West Virginia residents.
S. Dallas Cooley Scholarship (Nursing)
Mr. Cooley established this scholarship to fund awards for nursing students from the South Branch area.
South Branch nursing students in second year of studies, having completed their first year with above average grades.
Virginia Lowe Ramsburg Memorial Scholarship (Nursing)
In honor of her sister, Betty Lowe endowed the scholarship. Virginia was a nurse and long-time Shepherdstown resident. Available to residents of West Virginia admitted into the nursing program, chosen by the Nursing Department’s Scholarship Committee.
